Chris Leake here with Local Leverage, and in this video I went to give you a quick tip on internet marketing for your local business.
I'm going to share the number one thing that if you don't do anything else to market your local business through the internet, this is the first and foremost thing I believe you should be doing.
It's not have a website. It's not even getting your business listed in Google Places, which is really important.
But if you don't do anything else to market your business through the internet, build an e-mail list.
Build a list of customers or clients that you regularly do business with, or people who are interested in your business, and begin to communicate with them on a regular basis.
A good e-mail list is one of the most valuable marketing tools that any local business can have, and if you're not building one you're leaving a lot of money on the table.
We're not talking about spam here when you communicate with this list, because these are people who have given you permission to be in touch with them and they want to hear what you have to say. That's a whole different thing than sending people unsolicited e-mail.
So if you have a place of business like a store or an office that people come to, then take down their names and e-mail addresses as they come in.
If you go out to your clients or connect with them in some other way, whatever it takes to get names and e-mail addresses and begin to build that list and communicate regularly with people.
When you communicate, don't just blast them with advertising messages for your business, because people will immediately unsubscribe. Give them truly useful content, helpful things in your area of business.
You will build trust, you will establish yourself as an authority in your area of business, people will be more likely to do business with you, and a lot more likely to refer you to their friends as well.
So that's today's quick tip, build your e-mail list, if you're not doing it then you can get started today with this sheet of paper and a pen on your counter or desk, whatever it takes, but start building that list!
